What's changed in planning?

Economic impact is now a key consideration. Launched by the Minister for Sustainable Economic Development, Kirsten Morel at the Chamber of Commerce lunch on 17th September, the new joint approach from Planning and Ecomomy teams is available to read below.

Jersey operates a plan led system, where decisions are guided primarily by the Island Plan. Within that framework, planning officers balance social, environmental and economic considerations. Recent service reforms and updated guidance signal a stronger emphasis on demonstrating the economic outcomes of development (e.g., jobs, GVA uplift, supply chain effects), alongside environmental impact and good design.

Applicants can strengthen submissions by including an Economic Impact Summary that clearly sets out the benefits relative to Island Plan policies and sector strategies
