Managing Traffic Smarter
Every four days, our team faced the same challenge: swapping out 25kg batteries on portable traffic signals scattered across Jersey’s roads. Each change meant sending staff and vehicles out, often at inconvenient times and in risky roadside conditions.The costs to the business were mounting: labour hours, fuel, and electricity added up, while the lack of remote monitoring meant we were always reacting, never anticipating. We knew there had to be a better way.
The Turning Point
When the opportunity arose to apply for the Better Business Support Productivity Grant, we saw a chance to rethink how we manage traffic. Our vision was clear: invest in smarter technology that would cut costs, improve safety, and support Jersey’s sustainability goals.
The solution? EuroLight® portable traffic signals, equipped with SRL Solar PLUS® technology and Adaptive Detection Systems. These innovations promised longer battery life, solar charging, remote diagnostics, and even machine learning to adjust traffic flow automatically.
What We’ve Achieved
Efficiency Gains: Battery life now lasts up to 14 days, 88% reduction in total batteries and exchanges.
Overall savings:

Traffic Flow: Adaptive technology has reduced congestion by up to 50%, improving customer satisfaction and increasing signal utilisation.
Data Insights: Using Syrinx 365 software, we now track battery exchanges, location, and performance to optimise deployment and maintenance.
