Having lived, studied, and worked in the North East until her early thirties, Madeleine built her career in skills and education across both private training providers and college, qualifying to teach and assess apprenticeships along the way. She later moved into management, and geographically moved too, to London — where she served as Operations Manager at an apprenticeship training provider, overseeing quality and delivery. This led her to a role in local government, heading up a Skills and Employment Service for one of the London Boroughs. There, she worked closely with local employers and residents to support a thriving and inclusive economy. The service expanded significantly during the COVID period, requiring rapid innovation and the development of new skills, all while she was studying for her MBA.
In 2023, Madeleine relocated to Jersey with her husband, who runs a business on the island. She continued working in London for a time, commuting back and forth and working remotely in between, but ultimately found the arrangement unsustainable. She was delighted to find a new home with Jersey Business, where she can put her skills and experience to meaningful use. As a bonus, she now works in a lovely environment alongside an enthusiastic, dedicated team; a genuine win on both a professional and personal level.
The most important thing on my desk is…
I’d love to pretend I’ve heartily adopted all technology, but I just can’t live without a notebook and pen – they go with me everywhere I do. I have to-do lists upon to-do lists scribbled in there.
I love working at Jersey Business because…
It combines everything I value — meaningful, demonstrable impact, a supportive and driven team, and the chance to use my skills and experience to help businesses and employers here in Jersey to thrive. There’s a genuine sense that what we do makes a difference to Jersey’s economy and community, and that’s really important to me in my work.
When I’m not at work you’ll find me…
Anywhere and everywhere, my passport is well used, and I hate to be bored! We spend a lot of time over in the UK with friends in family, but also love a weekend getaway, exploring new sights and cities in Europe (and sampling the food thoroughly!)
