I started work on the family farm at Rozel growing Jersey Royal potatoes and daffodils and established a business working in partnership with family when I was 22. The farm production area increased significantly during the 1990s and the business diversified into produce exporting and local food wholesale and retail.
My role within the farming enterprise included responsibility for the deployment of business systems, which led to a parallel career in software development, an area of personal interest and subsequent commercial engagement.
More recently, I spent the last eight years working within the Department for the Economy of the Government of Jersey, with responsibility for policy development for the rural and marine sectors and the design and delivery of the Rural and Marine Support Schemes.
With over thirty years’ experience running businesses and insight gained working inside Government I am now focused on using this learned experience to help the Island economy by encouraging innovation, sustainability and productivity across all business sectors.
The most important thing on my desk is…
my laptop … I still enjoy developing software applications and finding more efficient ways of working, especially with the recent advances in AI.
When I’m not at work you’ll find me…
practicing Tai Chi … I enjoy the meditative gentle exercise and gaining further insight into the flow of our energy… or in my garden where I enjoy growing flowers and vegetables (as I am still a farmer at heart!)
Not many people know that…
I once appeared on stage ‘starring’ as the front end of a pantomime horse …. and you’ve heard that from the horse’s mouth!
