Work for me started from an early age, life on a working family farm in St Helier meant my brothers and I were quickly recruited, but my first ‘office’ job was at Walkers Advertising where I learned the ropes in the world of marketing, advertising and public relations from a small, dedicated team.
From there I moved to Le Riche as it was going through a transition led by Martin Bralsford. I started in the central office marketing team before moving to the SMT as Head of Marketing and then Director of Business Development at Le Riche’s Stores, which at that time had an almost 40% share of the Channel Island’s grocery market through a number of different trading formats, including Checkers and The Wine Warehouse which we developed and launched soon after I moved.
The experience gained in these first jobs set me up well for my current role running Farm Jersey and Genuine Jersey. Farm Jersey being marketing support for local growers and Genuine Jersey being an association of local producers who have made, grown, caught or reared their products on island.
The most important thing on my desk is…
my list of contacts, no longer a physical list, of course, but for me people will always remain the most important part of what I do and the reason I enjoy my job.
When I’m not at work you’ll find me…
on a bicycle. We’re lucky here in Jersey to have so many beautiful roads to ride on, it’s a fantastic way to appreciate where we live and it also means I don’t have to worry about a parking space after my commute!
Not many people know that…
a few years ago I cycled the entire west coast of France. 1,000 km from close to the French border with Spain to Roscoff on the north coast of Brittany. I can highly recommend embarking on a similar adventure, Europe has some incredible cycle routes which are a great way to see places off the beaten track. The one thing I would recommend… pack light and ensure you’ve got a very comfortable saddle!
