Having been on the Board of Jersey Business for the past three years I have seen the great work that the organisation delivers and the real and tangible difference that it can make to businesses.
However, as with individuals, it is during periods of change and stress that you get to know if the culture of an organisation is genuine. As I look back over the past 18 months, I can honestly say that the way the entire team at Jersey Business mobilised its efforts in support of Jersey’s business community, and in helping to shape Government initiatives, was truly in keeping with the culture and professionalism of the organisation.
I am delighted therefore, to be stepping into the role of Chair of Jersey Business at a time in the organisation’s evolution when its considerable business expertise and its ability to build and share business knowledge can never be in doubt.
Being at the heart of delivering support to Jersey’s business community has always been the core purpose of Jersey Business. We have a broad but comprehensive understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing businesses in many industries at both an operational and strategic level and, we now have an exciting opportunity to grow our support to meet to post Covid demands and opportunities.
To help us on this journey we are expanding our team and also seeking partners to work with us. These exciting developments are currently being promoted on our website and social media channels. We are looking for people and partners who believe in us, our vision for a prosperous economy our values and most importantly have a passion for helping local Jersey businesses build back stronger. Working with experts with a collaborative approach, we expect to co-create focused and impactful assistance for businesses, particularly those most affected by the Covid-19 restrictions.
Having the knowledge and ability to shape this tactical approach is what makes Jersey Business truly unique. It is also what gives us the confidence to know that we are the ‘go to’ place in Jersey for business expertise.
We have earned the trust of both the business community and the government, so are ideally placed to truly be the catalyst for positive change.
Whilst businesses of every shape and size can benefit from engagement with one of our teams, the Government also benefits from having a partner that can deliver the on-Island elements of its economic strategy. The Economic Council’s ‘New Perspectives’ report as well as Government’s own industry strategies are instrumental in defining the areas in which Jersey Business continues to develop its services.
So, what are we working towards? Accelerating business progress towards being more productive, resilient, digital and technology enabled are key drivers for us at the moment. Working with motivated and ambitious leaders is crucial as we help shape Jersey’s industries for the future.
2021 is a significant year for Jersey. We must make sure that the Island’s economy recovers from Covid-19 and in doing so builds back better. Jersey Business is central to that effort. We have the knowledge, capability drive and ambition to succeed. We invite you to join us on the journey.
