IoD Jersey is delighted to welcome Tom Holvey, the Government of Jersey's Chief Economic Advisor, as its first leader for the series of IoD Leaders’ Lunches.
We will be discussing the economic outlook for the island in 2024, the potential for diversification and entrepreneurship on island and his hopes for a collaboration with the private sector with regard to the future economy.
Tom Holvey's Bio
Tom moved to Jersey in March 2022 to take on the position of Chief Economic Advisor for the Government of Jersey. The Chief Economist's advice shapes every aspect of government policy and his responsibilities also include delivering the Future Economy Programme, which seeks to address the challenge of the Island’s ageing demographic by improving productivity across all sectors and developing new business sectors.
He has more than 20 years’ experience in economics, policy/strategy management and transformation as a senior public official, local politician, and economist. Before moving to Jersey’ Tom helped establish the UK Infrastructure Bank as the inaugural Chief Impact Officer, and he previously had leadership roles in the Covid PPE recovery programme and EU Exit for the UK’s Department for Health and Social Care. Additionally also working as the Chief Economist for another an island economy, St Helena, bringing experience of the constraints and opportunities such economies will face.
He served as a Councillor in York from 2003 to 2011, developing his understanding across a spectrum of public policy realms, and he has gained substantial board experience across diverse sectors, spanning charities, public entities, and private organisations.
