What makes you spring out of bed in the morning?

Not knowing how the day is going to end! I love what I do, and I love learning new things.

What does your normal day look like?

Each day would be a different combination of the following: appointments with my clients; meetings with the Studio team; creating new content and updating our social media; research and business development; and off-site commitments such as weddings and photo shoots.

How did you get to where you are today?

My career started in Jersey, but the catalyst for what I am doing today was my time in Milan. I studied at the Instituto Marangoni and then worked in the city’s demanding and deadline-driven fashion and film industries. This was an exceptional training for hair and make-up styling, and I wanted to go on to apply the skills I had developed in the Studio. Getting to where I am today required a lot of hard work and dedication.

What couldn’t you live your life without?

Family is everything.

Which outsiders (professional services, investors, mentors, family etc.) have been most important to the success of your business?

My VCFO has been most helpful. Having somebody to help manage the financial and administrative sides of the business has freed up my time to concentrate on the creative side.

My architect shared my vision for the Studio and helped to turn that vision into reality.

What have been the biggest challenges you’ve had to overcome?

Not everything that is worth doing is easy, but so far no challenge has been insurmountable. We are constantly evolving and growing so there would be the day to day challenges that come with that. ie: maintaining the level of service, innovating and moving the business forward.  We have an ethos in the Studio which is: cultivating and maintaining health for hair. It takes time to promote this ethos over the idea of quick fixes, and to find products which are well-aligned with it, but ultimately it is what makes our business different, and our clients see the benefits.

What advice would you give to your younger self before embarking on your business journey?

Keep evolving as a person, keep learning every day, keep meeting people from different cultures and experiencing them. Try to travel as much as you can.

Take courage and believe in yourself – the most important person to believe in you is you.
