What is CommonwealthFirst Export Champions?

CommonwealthFirst is a major new initiative to help SME’s trade and invest across the Commonwealth. Over three years, 100 leading UK SMEs will be selected to become Commonwealth Export Champions. Export Champions will be provided with unique access and support in their quest to win new business in the fast growing Commonwealth markets. Their success will be showcased as an encouragement to the wider UK business community.

A free association of 52 diverse English-speaking countries with similar legal systems, business practices and values, the Commonwealth provides the perfect launching pad to grow your business internationally.

What’s Involved?

As an Export Champion you will be part of an intensive world-class 3-year programme with international support, which include:

  • Tailored trade missions: to fast growing Commonwealth markets such as Australia, Canada, India, Malaysia, Nigeria and South Africa
  • Access to high level networks and introductions: to ensure you are dealing with the right people in country
  • Trainingand mentoring: support from leading UK exporters, country and technical experts
  • Unrivalled profiling and branding opportunities
  • Assistance from UK Government, Trade Associations, Chambers of Commerceand a network of Suppliers
  • Wider web platform providing advice and support to SMEs looking to expand into Commonwealth markets

Next Steps

Applications to become an Export Champion for the CommonwealthFirst programme open Wednesday 4th October 2017 and close Monday 4th December 2017. All submissions will be considered for the fourth and final cohort to be announced in January 2018.

What are the Department for International Trade Missions?

These are opportunities for businesses to go overseas to trade shows lead by the Department of International Trade.  These missions may be regionally specific so may not include Jersey.

The Department for International Trade (DIT) is a UK Government department working with businesses based in the United Kingdom to ensure their success in international markets, and encourage the best overseas companies to look to the UK as their global partner of choice.

Trade and Investment has never been more important to the country’s economic prospects.

The Department for International Trade helps British companies of all sizes to grow their business through international trade by offering expert advice and practical support through a range of programmes. It also connects businesses to the world’s top commercial opportunities and drives targeted campaigns centred around them.

Events and Missions

Events are one of the most effective ways to support companies that are looking for trade opportunities and that are undergoing periods of transition. The Department for International Trade calendar of events has some 400 core events and missions, and 1000 opportunities across TAP “Tradeshow Access Programme” and the English National Regions.

The Department for International Trade Events Portal

The Department for International Trade Events Portal provides a single calendar view of all Department for International Trade Events and Missions, and has been developed to provide companies with more detailed information on each event in order to help them decide on the most appropriate event to attend. The calendar can be filtered and searched by sector and/or market.

There are also detailed events websites which include more information about the event and also allow users to register for an event.
