The ‘Future of Enterprise in Jersey’ is the opportunity for business leaders and owners to consider and discuss how to navigate the turmoil in global politics, the subsequent impact on the economic environment and the repercussions for Jersey.

Chief Minister Senator Ian Gorst will present an overview of the structure and health of Jersey’s current business and economic landscape.

BBC’s Business Editor Simon Jack will discuss the global political and economic shifts and how they are shaping the economic outlook. The impact of Brexit, Trump, the EU and China will be examined as Simon  considers whether these changes pose an opportunity or a threat to Jersey.

Nick Ogden, Founder WorldPay and Clear Bank will explain how global shifts and advancements in technology are shaping business and consumer behaviour. Nick will talk about the impact of technology on everything from banking to mobile payments and whether they pose an opportunity or a threat to Jersey.

Taking on a role previously held by Robert Peston, Kamal Ahmed, and Jeff Randall is the BBC's Business Editor. Popular for his approachable, easy style, Simon formerly covered the day’s business headlines for Radio 4’s Today and BBC Breakfast News.

After time spent as a corporate and investment banker in London, New York and Bermuda, Simon joined the BBC’s Business and Economics unit. He reported for the Today programme and 5 Live's Wake up to Money. He also presented business and financial podcasts for the Daily Telegraph.

Simon became familiar to TV viewers when he covered the 2008 financial crisis for BBC News, the BBC News Channel and Working Lunch. He then replaced Declan Curry as the regular BBC Breakfast business news reporter, and has co-hosted the show as a stand-in for Bill Turnbull.
Having interviewed some of the biggest names in UK and international commerce, covered the key events in business and the markets, and analysed the implications of policy and government, Simon has an insight few can rival. His down-to-earth style, humour, and occasional irreverence, make him perfect for explaining the complexities of economics and industry to both the expert and the layperson alike.

An entrepreneur with over 30 years’ experience in banking, payments and fintech, Nick Ogden is the founder of ClearBank® and the bank’s Executive Chairman.

Prior to ClearBank®, Nick founded and led a number of other companies. The most notable of these is WorldPay, which he founded in 1997. The first internet payment service to guarantee transactions worldwide, Nick helped WorldPay grow to over 270 employees, 20,000 customers across 120 countries and e-commerce transactions in excess of $2billion per year. The company was acquired by The Royal Bank of Scotland in 2002. Nick also founded Multi Media Investments Limited, a research and development company, in 1993, and Voice Commerce Group, the UK’s first non-bank payments institution, in 2009.

Nick has been recognised for a number of industry awards including: The UK Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award, the Computer World Global IT Leaders award, the ID People Awards and the National Business Awards UK Entrepreneur of the Year.

Senator Ian Gorst was first elected as Chief Minister of Jersey on 14th November 2011 and re-elected on 3rd November 2014. First elected to the States Assembly in 2005, Senator Gorst’s previous role was as Minister for Social Security. He also served concurrently as Chairman of the Jersey Overseas Aid Commission. Previously, he acted as an Assistant Minister in both the Chief Minister’s Department and in the Treasury Department.

Senator Gorst is an accountant with significant experience in private client, private equity and retail fund sectors. He has a keen interest in overseas development and is an Honorary Fellow of UNICEF UK.
