A Day in the Life of a Jersey Entrepreneur-Nigel Le Quesne
Nigel Le Quesne, Founder, JTC Group
What makes you spring out of bed in the morning?
The opportunity to keep improving the business and building upon what we have already achieved and more recently the sheer joy of being alive and well.
What does your normal day look like?
There really isn’t a typical day or week. Whether I am dealing with clients or colleagues, assessing and negotiating acquisition opportunities, speaking at events or visiting any of our 17 global jurisdictions.
What couldn’t you live your life without?
Obviously, my family and Tottenham Hotspur FC and in a business context my JTC colleagues and (probably) my iPhone.
Which outsiders (professional services, investors, mentors, family etc.) have been most important to the success of your business?
There have been many business mentors and public and sporting figures I have admired primarily for their honesty, integrity and selflessness. In a business sense I recently went to an event at which Jim Collins spoke, he is the celebrated management consultant and author of the books ‘Good to Great’ and ‘Built to Last’ amongst many other publications.
What have been the biggest challenges you’ve had to overcome?
A degree of self-doubt in my early years. More recently I have recovered from life threatening throat cancer which required every part of my mental and physical strength to overcome.
What advice would you give to your younger self before embarking on your business journey?
A short list here:-
- Always treat people with honesty, fairness and respect;
- Be confident but not complacent;
- Never take anything for granted or think you know it all;
- Always share the success with your colleagues, be a true team player;
- Take the time to encourage and develop others;
- Cherish your successes and learn from your defeats;
- Have fun and enjoy what you do.
