Enterprise Week 2017, the most important series of business events in Jersey, will be reflecting on the outlook for Jersey in an international context, identifying whether current local and global events are opportunities or threats for business in the island.

With a programme of events between 16th and 19th May, the Keynote Event ‘The Future of Enterprise in Jersey’ on Tuesday 16th May will be the opportunity for Jersey’s business leaders and owners to discuss how to navigate the turmoil in global politics, the subsequent impact on the economic environment and the repercussions for Jersey.

Jersey Business, organiser of Enterprise Week, is delighted to announce that international speaker Simon Jack, BBC’s Business Editor, will address the audience at the Keynote Event.

After spending time as a banker in London, New York and Bermuda, Simon has reported on business and economics for the Today programme, BBC News Channel and BBC’s Breakfast News and now leads the broadcaster’s coverage of events in the business world from money markets to the tech sector. Having interviewed some of the biggest names in UK and international commerce he is well placed to discuss the implications of the current shifts in global politics and how these are shaping the economic environment across the world. Focusing in particular on the consequences for the UK, the USA and Europe, Simon will share his insights and examine what Jersey’s business community must do to successfully navigate this change and become stronger in the future.

Jersey Business’s Chief Executive Graeme Smith said, “The business environment in 2017 is perhaps the most uncertain and challenging that we have faced since Enterprise Week started four years ago. We are therefore very pleased to be able to arrange such a high quality programme of events for the business community in Jersey. All industries are affected by the global winds of change and Enterprise Week will present an opportunity for all businesses to address these in their own context. The Keynote Event ‘The Future of Enterprise in Jersey’ is a not-to-be-missed forum for every business leader on the island.’

Chief Minister Senator Ian Gorst said: ‘Once again Jersey Business has developed an exceptional programme of events during Enterprise Week. Whilst we are in a strong position, we are not immune from the implications of Brexit and other global events and Enterprise Week’s Keynote Event is a unique opportunity for the business community across the island to come together to consider how to respond to external factors that are shaping our future. I am delighted to be addressing this very important seminar and discussing the future of enterprise in Jersey’.

Other events during the week will look at the influence simple technology can have on business results, how innovation can drive business growth and the importance of putting customers at the centre of a growth strategy. The week will also include an opportunity to hear how Jersey’s Government is ‘Shaping Your Future’ by building a long-term vision for the island based on feedback from Islanders.

Enterprise Week starts on 16th May and runs until Friday 19th May. The full programme can be found on www.jerseybusiness.je/events.
